Because the one supplied with FreeBSD is two years and several security patches old? You can find the latest version of Sendmail (8.7.5) at: ftp://FTP.CS.Berkeley.EDU/ucb/sendmail ...as well as older archives and lots of info. -Andy. (who recently upgraded too) frii.net
