Actually, packages are binary installation mechanisms.

The binaries which are not allowed to be shipped on the CDROM
(like the Netscape binary, which Netscape insists on distributing
themselves) are pulled from the net on an "as-mneeded" basis at
install time.

This can get somewhat rough when they come out with a new version
and delete the old binary from their site after the CDROM has
been pressed (this is known to have happened in the Netscape
case, actually).


For these packages, then:

1)	It is assumed you have a net connection

2)	If the install fails, pull down the package from
	the FreeBSD FTP site instead of using the one on the
	CDROM.  The packages on the FTP site are all kept
	up to date as possible; there will probably be a lag
	of no more than a week when a commercial binary is
	changed over (assuming you notify ports@freebsd.org).
