Then simply install FreeBSD on the 2nd harddrive.

Surely, XFree86 is available for FreeBSD, fvwm is one of many
free X11 window managers, comes with sources, FreeBSD has a C compiler,
so guess ... BTW, FreeBSD comes with a ports collection of over
500 ports, among these fvwm, fvwm2, fvwm in a Win 95 look alike,
afterstep - a Next alike fvwm clone ...

I hope, that the version of FreeBSD, that you want to install,
can fully truly support/handle enhanced IDE ...

Usually under Unix it's a better idea to buy SCSI disks ...
But you all want that crappy IDE stuff *sigh* ;-)
