No. And it is better to put BSD not at the first partition, at least for DOS.
386bsd uses the first 14 sectors for boot-up. The first one can be loaded from
another partition, and it actually do it in protected mode.

i	You cannot put 386bsd on the 2nd disk because 386bsd boot code, only
loads from the first one. That is my understanding after examining its boot
code.
