Santa Clara, California Startup Seeks UNIX Software/Network Developer


THE COMPANY:  PocketScience Inc. will soon release its flagship product 
-- PocketMail(tm) Service.  The PocketMail(tm) device and service allows 
people to send and receive email messages from virtually anywhere.  The 
PocketMail(tm) network will leverage existing wireless and wireline 
communications networks.  The Company's own PocketMail(tm) subscriber 
hardware will be available for well under $100 and be co-marketed by 
major communications service providers. 

PocketScience Inc. is invested by several computer and information 
industry luminaries and privately held.

THE OPPORTUNITY:  The Company is seeking a UNIX Software/Network 
Developer for implementation of several components of the PocketMail 
Network Gateway.   Position begins immediately and includes salary, 
benefits, and equity options.

RESPONSIBILITIES include:
-Unix network programming.
-Shell script programming.
-Documentation/Specification of APIs and Interface with outside networks
-Implement and upgrading of Perl/C/C++ data parsing and sorting system 
on UNIX platform.
-Connectivity between database system and other network components.
-Possible work on Web-based and textual front end design.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND should include:
-3-5 years experience developing projects on networked UNIX systems 
(Linux and Unixware 2.1 a plus) using standard network communications 
services (Sockets and TCP/IP).  
-Programming experience using UNIX electronic mail services (Web and/or 
text).  
-X-Windows programming experience.
-Real Time programming/multi-threaded programming experience.
-Relational Database design and programming skills desirable, but not 
mandatory.
-CGI/Web Server front end forms experience desirable, but not mandatory.
-System administration experience helpful, but not mandatory.

PERSONAL BACKGROUND should include:
-Able to research and solve problems independently.  Self-directed.
-Technically versatile.
-Hardworking.
-Team Player.
-Managerial ability a plus.
