Hi,

I'm trying to install FreeBSD 2.1.5 by FTP on a 386 system I have at home. But I can't
install via PPP, because the kernel keeps refusing to recognize the internal modem I've
got on COM2/sio1. Instead I just get the "sio1: not found at x2f8" during the boot.

The modem is a Supra FaxModem 28.8, installed on COM2, address 2f8, IRQ 3. It works fine
under DOS. I can't just switch the modem to COM1/sio0 because I have a serial mouse
connected there (which could have something to do with the problem). I've tried running
-c and deleting every driver except the disk controllers, sio0, sio1, and sc0, and it
doesn't seem to help.

I also have a SoundBlaster card and card for an antediluvian Logitech handheld scanner
on the computer, but I'm not concerned with getting them running just yet (or, perhaps,
ever).

Any ideas/modem configurations/good books to read while I try to install from 50
floppies?

Thanks,

Charles Sutton
