Me too. Actually it was an SMC 8003EP.  The real kicker is that I could
ping to and from the bad system if I changed the broadcast to the IP
address of the remote.  I still don't understand this (echo
maybe?), but putting printf's in the we driver revealed that there were no
receive interrupts when it was allegedly receiving.  To the source!
