Not likely to be the processor; my secondary server is running an AMD 
5x86-133 with no trouble.

The only time I have experienced random crashes, it has turned out to be 
a problem with the external cache. Of course, main memory could also be 
the culprit here; I'd suggest you disable external cache and let the 
system run a little slower for awhile, to see what happens. That will at 
least tell you which sort of memory is causing the problem.
