Fairly-clueless-newbie-question, please help!

I really really need instructions on how to either:
1) Make a boot floppy for FreeBSD
2) Boot up in single-user mode

Someone has accidentally (or intentionally) deleted files so that no
one can log in... not even root. I have a tape backup, but I can't log
in to restore it!! Please help!
