Try typing "show modem" at the third console. It should throw
various modem-related info, starting with something like

device: /dev/cuaa1 speed: 57600

If it says /dev/cuaa0, then it's got COM1 instead and you need to do
"set modem /dev/cuaa1" to correct it.

Put all the files from the bin directory of ftp.freebsd.org into
c:\freebsd\bin and do the same for any other distributions you
want to install (eg all the info files would go in c:\freebsd\info).

You must have the bin directory for the installation to work, but
all the others are optional and can be added later.
