I posted a similar query a week or so ago.  I was pointed to the 
following URL.
	ftp://ftp.ww.net/pub/wildwind/upsd-1.1.tgz
This site also has a newer release of the software, 2.1 I think.
Alas, this code seems to work only with SmartUPS units, not with
BackUPS units (which is what I have)
Maybe it will be of some use to you.
