One of my FreeBSD-2.1-R boxes crashed today after months of stability. If it
persists, I'll write down the trap info from the console, but I did not do
that today.

I was forced to press reset. Everything seems to have survived despite the
'volume not properly dismounted' messages. Checking /var/log/messages
revealed the following:

Jul 28 01:29:00 rob /kernel: swap_pager: out of space
Jul 28 01:30:00 rob /kernel: pid 27208: cron: uid 0: exited on signal 11
Jul 28 01:30:00 rob /kernel: Process 27209 killed by vm_fault -- out of swap

The last message repeated 9,637 times! (according to grep and wc)

System is a Cyrix 486-DX2-80 w/ 16meg RAM. Swap partition (oops, is that a
slice? :-) is whatever doce recommended (RAM * 4?).

Not certain what all was happening at the time, but I had previously
*successfully* created a couple of big (30 meg) gzipped tarballs on the local
drive from files read from an nfs mount to another FreeBSD-2.1-R box.

Any ideas appreciated !
