What about simply writing a script that sends ATDTXXXXXX,,,,,,YYYYY
to the pager number?  you might have to lengthen the time each comma
uses, and make the modem blind dial, but that would at least get a
telephone number or other identifying number to the pager.

I'd be interested in a alpha implementation also.
