There is not such thing as the same hardware configuration,
for Optimum performance on these operating systems, take a look
at their Hardware Compatibility lists.

They are all about even.

Hmmm, RedHat 3.0.3 was easy to install, FreeBSD was easy to install,
and Solaris was also easy to install..  All the systems here uses
MENU's for installation..

I'd say FreeBSD.  I have never seen a machine that's as capable as
ftp.cdrom.com.  That's one hell of an internet server.

I'd stay away from Solaris 2.5 until they actually release that
patch for that tcp bug.

I use Linux for all our servers here at Digital Odyssey.

We don't have any problems with the system.

Performance is quite good on our news servers especially with
raid 0 software disk striping. 

Hmmm, all in all, it really matters on what you are planning on
doing?  Do you want MAXIMUM web performance?  Maximum news server
perfomance?
