I've noticed the same thing.. I found this glitch when trying to compile
the kernel... After some time, it seems that the machine just slows to a halt
(or becomes *VERRRRRRYY SLOOOOOOW*). I simply killed the build and restarted it
-- everything picked up and ran as expected.

I only have the "standard" install of 386BSD (i.e. no custom disklabels...)
It is my feeling that this problem occurs when most of the swap is used up --
I noticed that make(1) was about 1.7Mb when the system slowed. The system
never crashed, it just was unusable

Now, I have a question -- using 386BSD on a 386/20 with 5Mg RAM + 5Mb swap do
I have 10Mb of VM or 5mb of VM(sizeof(swap_space))?

Has anyone had difficulty booting a Compaq Deskpro 386/20 with custom
partitions? The whole reason I used the standard install was due to the fact
that my custom install (20Mb swap - cylinder aligned) as given by an early
FAQ produced a system that hung and would never finish booting (it would
boot up to the point when the Fixit kernel would normally change the root
device). The standard install procedure worked without a hitch...
