Sure, we run it on our two firewall bastions that connect the company
to the internet. It's painless to set up on FreeBSD if you follow the
instructions. The problem in using it is not the OS, but under
standing the Firewall you want to build. If you know about application
level firewalls it's a breeze. 

There is a port in the FreeBSD ports directory that takes care of all
the necessary patches.
