When the xserver starts with the svga driver all I get is a tangle of pixels
on the screen and with the S3 driver I get just a blank uniformly cream
colored screen. I have a trio64 chip, version 3.11 of xfree86, and am running
freebsd 2.0.5 The mono server works well as does the 16 color, but anything
above those resolutions is toast. The monitor and trident combination I just
removed worked good so I'm sure I can rule out the monitor as the
problem (can't I???).

Does some Unix/XFree god have any ideas as to a line of attack that will be
cheaper than upgrading my card to a name brand card?

Am I wrong in assuming that the dac is onboard with the trio64, and that on
startup the xserver can probe the clock to determine it's nature? Does the
tangle of pixels on the screen I get from the svga driver indicate that it is
a monitor problem? Is it possible that the S3 and my monitor are interacting
on some level to create an incompatablility?? How important is to completely
define my monitor settings with this chipset vs. the trident chip set? Where
can a person get more detailed information on the XF86Config options etc. I've
read everything at www.xfree86.org and I'm still just as dumb and naive as
before, is there an idiots guide to Xfree86?????
