Get  the port  in /usr/ports/mail/elm.  It  will install  Elm 2.4ME+22 (25)
(based on Elm 2.4 pl25) with only fcntl locking  enabled. That way, it will
works. 

You'll  get   lots of extras    with this version:  QP   vanishes,  you get
attachements, PGP supports and so on.
