Wouldn't ya know, just before I attempt to back up I notice my file
system is corrupted. I attempted to correct this the old fashioned
way: reboot the system, however that did not solve the problem. On
bootup I got:

BAD SUPERBLOCK: Values in Super Block Disagree with those in first
alternate.
pid 12: fsck: uid 0: exited on signal 8

I attempted (on advice from our unix guy) to use fsck to fix the
problem. I used "fsck -b 32 /dev/rwd1s2e" (the partition that
had the problem) and there were a million things that needed to
be fixed, so I ^C out and re-ran using the -y option so that I
could boot up. However, when I look at my file system, it looks
the same as before. Anyway that is what I have tried. Now here
is my system.

486 66MHZ with 2 drives (1 dos/ 1 BSD). The BSD drive is a 1G
WD caviar, IDE card is a Promise Technologies DC-4030VL Caching
Disk Controller.

The BSD drive has 2 partitions of roughly 360 Mb and 640 Mb each.
The first partition has the /, /usr and swap slices while the
second has the home and ports directories. The first partition
seems fine. The second (/dev/rwd1s2e) is ~35% full.

The error that I saw was in listing some of the ports stuff. The
listing looks like:
/u/ports/audio:
total 1701209510
-rw-r--r-- 1 root 523 411 Apr 12 02:13 Makefile
drwxr-xr-x 5 root 523 512 May 15 19:58 gmod/
b--xr-Sr-t 26213 1701209446 1711957350 101, 1701183590 Jun 9 01:23 gsm*
drwxrwxr-x 5 root 523 512 Apr 11 1995 maplay/
...

There are a number of files like this. I cannot delete them. Now
if I loose this stuff it is no big deal, but I am wondering what
caused the problem & how to fix it. Could I have something set up
wrong (i.e. could this have something to do with the >500 Mb on
the disk)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
