Where exactly is the problem? We have already a well-established freely available 3D-Graphics-API for Linux, FreeBSD, GNU, and all other systems supporting X11R6: PEX. Feel free to join the XFree86 development team and add PEX 3D hardware accelleration support to the XFree86 server for your favourite video card. No need for panic.
