Friends of BSD:

Help ! The floppy I created for FreeBSD 2.1 (Jan '96) install from (WC)
CD-ROM does not seem to work. Here are the details:

Computer: IBM Aptiva M40, P5/75 , 16 MB, Dual Opti IDE Controller with 4 IDE
connectors:
          - 1 GB Drive (devoted to Win95/MS-DOS)
          - CD-ROM (Mitsumi off the 1st IDE)
          - 1.6 GB Drive ( about 1 GB of initial partition reserved for
            FreeBSD, Non-DOS)

The system has a MWave Card, SB Compatible, SVGA with 1MB VRAM, 3.5" FD,
28.8 MWave modem, 2 COM, 1 PP and a PS/2 mouse. The system has a Rapid
Resume Manager (automatic boot into Win95) which I disabled.

I have read the install instructions "Installing and Running FreeBSD" by
Greg Lehey, published by WC CD-ROM. I made boot floppy on 2 clean formatted
diskettes using VIEW, and also using RAWRITE. I used atapi.flp.

when I try to boot of the floppy that I created, the system tries with no
messages and switches to C: drive and boots Win95.

Another clarification. Page 26 of the Install manual says that CD-ROM
must be jumpered as SLAVE device. However, when I read the readme at
www.freebsd.org, the Readme said the CD-ROM should be MASTER device. Not
knowing what difference it makes, can you please clarify.

I do not wish to install from floppies (I have to make 15 floppies). Any
suggestions, recommendations will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Sridhar Krishnan
