Yes, once again, I have "done something" to my system.  Here's what I did,

1) rebuilt kernal with patches for X, 2nd drive, and com port fix
2) booted this kernal.  No problems encountered.
3) booted again.  This time, however, the system just sat there after it
   finished the rc script.
4) booted fixit disk, and copied my original kernal (which I had kept) back
   to 386bsd.
5) booted with old kernal, and still get no login.  It's as if there was
   nothing specified in the ttys file.

Can someone help me figure out what I've done?!
