That should not be a problem by itself. I am using NE2000 clones that I mostly
bought at computer shows for $25 with no trouble. I do have one NE2100 clone
that FreeBSD recognizes nicely as lnc0, and it's in my main gateway/server
box. Sometimes when I reboot that box I get an "lnc0 timeout" message, but
then it says "resetting lnc0..." and it comes back on line. I almost never
get such messages with ed0 cards, and it always seems to bring itself back by
the time bootup is done.

I know it *shouldn't* make any difference (sound familiar???), but you might
try re-designating the new card as ed0 rather than ed1, just for grins. It may
just make a difference in some obscure, distant background way.
