Considering that Linux, OS/2, Windows 95, and Windows NT all manage to
support most of those drives without having to have a separate driver
for each one, it's standard enough.

What is sad about FreeBSD IDE CD-ROM support is that the boot kernels on
the CD-ROM are misconfigured, making it fail in a lot of cases where it
should work.
