Sorry, but this is not really true. There are of course customers who
ask you stuff like "and how do I install LINUX". If we take the
freedom to not answer those kinds of questions, then you really should
be not surprised.

There are certain problems which cannot be fixed by a "quick hack".
Because we are commercial we do care about relieablity. A non-trivial
change requires a significant amount of testing, and hence cannot be
done every other day. Hence some fixes will only appear in the next
major new version. Guess it's not really different for ANY other
software product.

Also I should comment about your statement of patience. Some users
(and I have no idea whether this is true for the original poster)
provide us with bug-reports like: "Your software does not work. Why ?". 
Well, without a clue about what OS and what hardware this user is
running we don't even have a chance. Another problem we are facing
especially is the fact that graphics card venders change their
hardware like other people their underware. But they still keep the
same name for the product. I know of many different revisions of the
Matrox Millenium, and depending upon which you have (and which
motherboard for that matter as well) different problems can appear.
