Hi,

I have just installed an Adaptec 1542CP. When booting FreeBSD 2.0.5 the first
time, it did not get past the `waiting for SCSI devices to settle' message
(ctl-alt-del did not work).
After playing with some BIOS-settings and disabling everything in sight,
the system booted and then suddendly re-booted during the syscons setup.
Sometimes I get parity errors and page faults, too.
I have grepped the FAQ and some other documents for hints, but with no
success.

I'm running FreeBSD 2.0.5 RELEASE, the transfer speed of the adapter is set
to 3.3 MB/s (lowest possible), othet settings are IRQ 11, DRQ 5, Port 0x330.
I also have tried to disable the BIOS. No difference.

When the adapter is being detected, the driver says

aha0: Unknown board-VD.0

before it (correctly) determines the board settings.

Exactly the same system *does* work with an Adaptec 1522 and is stable
since a few months.

Any hints are welcome.

Bye,
	nmh.
