Your whole article references only 640x480 and 800x600. I want to
run a full SVGA 1024x768 in 256 colors. I have seen references to
1024x768 by other posters, but between fried monitors and just plain
'it didn't work' comments, I am confused.

I am looking to buy a 486 system in the near future, and I want
to run Linux on it (among other things). I insist on 1024x768.
What cards does everyone recommend? I don't mind paying a little more for
the card if it's likely to be compatible with more software (i.e.,
ATI, Orchid, etc.)

If anyone has come up with a list of cards that support these hi-res
color modes under Linux XFree86, please post it. (And the Xconfig
settings to use them wouldn't hurt either.)
