The terminal probably doesn't provide pseudo-carrier (or your null
modem cable).  You need to declare the port as being a `local' one.
The ``terminal'' entry in /etc/rc.serial does NOT do this for you, but
the ``maybe'' entry might be a maybe for you. :)
