Well the shared active patch definitely does work with BSDI 2.1 and it 
does make a very worthwhile difference in performance and particularly 
resource availability - particularly RAM.  We are using INN 1.4unoff4 on our 
BSDI 2.1 RAID5 news server which is always heavily loaded (we are ISP's) as 
well as the other official INN 1.4unnof4 patches all without problem.

I am not our newsadmin and so cannot assist much further, but I do suggest you
