I had a similar problem. My cdrom was plugged into the second
IDE controller on its own and hence was the master device. By
default cdroms seem to come jumpered for slave. I changed this
and off it went. Stangely, MSDOS does not seem to notice the
incorrect jumper setting. When it is working correctly the
configuration script will say that it found the device as the
system boots. If it doesnt then it has not found it.
