Dear helping friends,

I am an advanced MS-DOS user, but a beginner when it comes to unix.
I can get around with basic commands, but have no knowledge concerning
the inner workings of a unix based operating system. My point is, I want
to learn! I want to install BSD 386 on my 386/25DX to explore unix
further.
I'm having problems installing it (probably because I
don't understand how to do it). I have downloaded all of the texts
available on agate.berkeley.edu, and have read everything concerning
instalation. I have "rawrited" both the mini and fixit bootables, and
am able to boot sucessfully. My problem is that when I run install, it
does not recognize that I have TWO MFM drives. It says that I do not
have enough room, and asks if I want to use the entire drive (the first
one). I want to
install BSD entirely on my second disk drive. Do I need to create a
/dev file? How would I do this?
Let me tell you about my computer's configuration. I have two MFM
disks, one 40 meg, and one 160 (as drive two) The second drive, a
maxtor xt-2190, has over 1024 cyls, which forces me to run a device
driver under ms-dos to access anything above 128 megs (out of 160)
Will I have to run a driver under BSD? It should be known
that it is not necessary for me to use a driver to use this drive, I
would have to format it with a smaller partition though. I currently
have only two megs of memory. I am considering purchacing more, to
total 8 megs. Will this be enough to run Xwindows?
Partitioning is a shady area. Should I make a partion for dos, and
have BSD overwrite that partion, or should I leave ONLY DOS partions,
and have space remaining on the drive for BSD to create it's own? Will
I be able to boot BSD from my second disk drive? Is there a way to
select operating systems on the fly?

Thanks to anyone who can help! Feel free to reply via my internet
address (cap2624@ultb.isc.rit.edu) or within this news group. I am
sorry if I have repeated common questions, but I have checked
documentation and the FAQL file, and they do not answer my questions
completely.
								Chris
