   <BRUTAL SNIP>

You should definitly try JOE. This acronym stands for 'Joe's Own Editor'
and this software is written by a guy named Joseph H. Allen (I assume he
is colloqially known as Joe -- just guessing...) It is an editor that has
the ability to be tuned so to mimic different editors -- like pico, emacs
(I know, I know, you don't want this one) star and my favourit one: Borland's
TC/BC editor.
Now you have one problem: I can't find out where I obtained JOE. (A quick
archie-search didn't do any good for me). The documentation does mention
the creator's email address, which is: jhallen@world.std.com.
I suppose you could contact him this way.

As for me, my slogan is: Edit at Joe's!

Cheers and good luck, Jan vos.
