	      -----------------------------------------
PC-card (PCMCIA) test package for FreeBSD
	      -----------------------------------------

		 version 960506 (for 2.2-960501-SNAP)

			   Tatsumi Hosokawa
		     <hosokawa@mt.cs.keio.ac.jp>
			     Tokyo, Japan

We release the new PC-card package based on FreeBSD 2.2-960501-SNAP.
You can get it from

ftp://ryukyu.mt.cs.keio.ac.jp/pub/FreeBSD/pccard/pccard-test-960506.tar.gz

(Note that we changed the ftp site because bash.cc.keio.ac.jp is
unstable these days.)

Please read

http://www.mt.cs.keio.ac.jp/person/hosokawa/freebsd-pcmcia/

for details.

This package contains the device drivers, the manager daemon, and the
maintainance utilities for PCMCIA cards under FreeBSD 2.2-960501-SNAP.

(BTW, have 2.2-960501-SNAP already had PC-card and APM stuff? Yes.
Part of OUR package has been incorporated into 2.2-SNAP, but this
code and /etc files are based on former version of our package, and
the integration and documentation is still incomplete. That's why we
release the new package for latest snapshot release.)

SlimSCSI -- With default configuration available with pccard-test-960414,
card does get recongnized, SCSI devices get properly configured. But
when I actually start using them they time out!

Misc Info :
The kernel has options NEPPMHACK, however 3C589B does not work after
  resume.
EHDD170 and Flash Packer are not fully tested. I checked only 'fdisk
  wd1' works.
XJ2144-81 and RC144ACL sometimes work, but mostly does not work with
message "sio2: probe test x failed." Reset time was changed to 10000, but
  the condition was not improved.
The slot 2 and 3 of PCMCIA/FD dock works fine.
On the boot sequence, the kernel sometimes panic with page fault after
detecting fdc0. It is seems that the frequency of kernel panic changes
  depend on the kernel configuration.

Misc Info :
The machine has a IDE CD and a SB-Pro compatible sound hw. Both works
with the FreeBSD drivers. The display controller is a CLGD7543
driving a 12" TFT display. The latest XFree86-2.1.2 beta code does
not work properly. Using the hacked Cirrus driver Erik Anders
together with the latest XFree86 sources works well with 8 and 16 bit
visuals. The 3C589C ethernet card performs really well. I can easily
saturate a ethernet with it. The modem card works equally well. I had
to insert a sleep in rc.pccard to let the cards get configured before
netstart tried to start the net.

A lot of people report that this modem works very well on other systems.
Video chip is Cirrus Logic CLGD6245, not official support by XFree86. Works
fine with VGA 16 server but have been unable to get it working with
XF86_SVGA dispite support for other chips in the family. Comments in code
suggest that CLGD62X5 support is not well tested. Very nice subnotebook.

Misc Info :
XFree86 3.1.2D works well for the 800x600 LCD screen. However, you need
to get into windows 95 and within TI-Setup turn Expanded Mode OFF.
You also need to TURN OFF your machine in addition to rebooting for the
changes to take effect. The only current problem with X-windows is that
you cannot switch screens or exit X without losing sync. I have reported
this to XFree86. Earlier versions of XFree86 do not work because of lack
of support for the Cirrus CLGD-7543.
The relevant sections of /etc/XF86Config are:
  	... for your mouse...
  	Device "/dev/psm0"
  	Emulate3Buttons

APM works but is somewhat flaky. You can often suspend with 'zzz', but
often the machine hangs. PCCARD-TEST works very well.
