Though having 8 MB of RAM, it wouldn't compile on my machine, too. 
Try to compile the file in question without optimization, it least
that did the job for me. As far as i remember the problem is related
to using up all available swap space.
You will encounter the problem a second time, when eval.c is compiled
again as "teval.c".

Hope it helps somehow. As a last resort i may give you my binaries.
