Well, after I gave up playing "rogue" my system crashes nearly went away :-)

No, I'm still there, sorry :-). I don't like the rapid evolution
(say: Linus' weekend patch with increasing version number) of Linux, so I
still stay with 386bsd. But I think it might be time now for the 0.2 version;
(the update intervals begin to come close to the HURD intervals). No, I
don't want to start a new discussion about the release date of 0.2.

Why, isn't 386bsd enough challenge?
