Instead of using AppleTalk at all, why not use NFS?  There are several
solutions for the Mac.  I use MachTen, a full-blown BSD4.4 kernel running
on top of MacOS, for my NFS implementation.  At something like $400, this
may be a bit much for NFS only.  You could look at Intercon Systems or
Thursby Software Systems for cheaper implementations.  There are others
as well.  comp.sys.mac.system should be able to help.
