It's perhaps less buggy these days... but the newer 3Com cards still
count as rather crappy for most of us.  They've over-optimized
everything away so it fits into one ASIC.  The cost is that they've
got much less buffer space than a Real Ethernet Card (like the good
ol' WD8013 which has 16 KB).  The first 3C509's are said to have had
only 2 KB of Rx FIFO -- in other words, one large Ethernet packet.
