I recently tried to install the latest snap on an experimental machine
with a 2.5GB IDE drive. After 50 or so tries with different settings
I noticed that the machine would stop downloading files after a while
I am doing the ftp install. I am also unable to ping the machine from
outside after the driver fails.

I do realize that I am using an experimental driver. Please dont consider
it a complaint. I am just reporting a problem with it if the authors are
already not familiar with it.
