It sounds like you don't have support in your kernel.... do you have a
line saying "device cd0" in your kernel config file ?  If so, make sure
that you have the driver powered on when you boot.  The drivers tend not
to load if no devices are seen - this happens with my DAT drive.

Boot DOS and run "fdisk /mbr".  It's not documented, but re-writes the
boot sector code.
