I'm relatively new and I bought 8meg of ram to add to my new PowerMac 7200 and opened the lid and snapped it in. A friend of mine converted a old Mac Classic to Unix. It doesnt have ANY MacOs in it now. (He's a Hacker) The modem plugs in the computer the power cord and the phone line. Run the install disk, you're done. Windows 95 can be run on Macintosh as well as windows 3.1, unix, os/2, Dos,etc...The new Power Mac uses the RISC chip Made by IBM! Its not the Hardware that sucks for (Ibm users) its Microsofts Fucked up operating system and thier software. "Windows" have been on a Macintosh since 1984. What do you think they were trying to be like when they made "Windoze". Windows is like running a screwed up Mac. The underlying problem is running windows over top the dos, (Two operating sysems?) to make it like a Mac. (GUI) Bill Gates instead of continueing to use the dos underpinning should have started with a clean slate and made a ghapical user interface that could have set the standard for all computers. As it stands now the Mac is the standard thats persued by microsoft. (they tread a line telling you macs suck but give you features the mac has). The current Os for macs are not taking full advantage of the speed the PowerPc can give us Mac people. System 8 will be all natve code and Mac will truly smoke! PowerMac's NOW run anything 3-4 times faster then a comparable Pentium.(same speed,same ram, same program). When the MULIMEDIA hype came out I wondered what they were talking about. My old (when I bought it) Mac already did all that. Sound, Graphics...Mac's cost about the same nowadays (Apple is wised up) You have always gotten the bells and whistles with your Mac. The Ibm version- Same hard drive,speed,monitor....is devoid of a lot of the toys we get standard and you buy extra. I know it is an accomplishment to learn to use a IBM type computer. Lots of time, effort and brain damage. I'm saying it doesn't have to be that way. Microsoft is the pain that gives the Headache. I've played with ibm to see if I was missing anything. (Not a damn thing) you should try a Mac.
