I have no idea.  But, in any case, I got the thing working.  It doesn't
use the bi-directional capabilities of the printer... lpd simply dumps
what is in the queue.

No, the problem was that I should have disabled the burst page via
the 'sh' printcap tag.

Once I did that, it started working like a charm!
