I have a problem. I can't start an X window session. I have a P5-166,
16M of memory, an Adaptec 2940 PCI SCSI adapter with (2) 1G hard drives
and a 6x CDROM. The Video card is a Diamond Stealth64 Video 2001 Series
with 2M of video memory.

I installed FreeBSD with very little problem. I used the novice
installation and installed everything. When it came time to setup X, I
configured X with the Diamond Stealth64 Video card that corresponded to
my video card with 2048K memory. I also set it up with a two-button
mouse and I didn't emulate the middle button. I also set the chipset to
the Trident S3 chipset.

After I configured X, I tried to startx. When I did that, the screen
went blank and about 30 seconds later my machine rebooted. I have a
friend who has been helping me. He is also stumped. He thinks there is
an error that causes fatal error but it isn't serious enough to cause a
core dump. We tried different configuration with no luck. He left me
to try different configurations.

I tried different configurations. I even took it to a simple VGA setup
with nothing extra. This didn't work. I did find one setup that didn't
cause my system to reboot. This configuration was a:

31.5-35.1; SuperVGA 800x600 @ 56
50-100 vert sync
and used XF86-SVGA server.

This setup didn't cause my system to reboot but it didn't work. But
since my computer didn't reboot, the display showed the errors. These
are some of the messages left on my screen:

SVGA: Too little memory for virtual resolution 1600 1200
*** A configured device found, but display modes could not be resolved***
Fatal server error: no screens found
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unexpected signal 13

I don't know what other information I can give. If someone has
experienced this problem or knows a possible solution to my problem, I
would appreciate any help. Thanks for any help that may be given.
