When I boot FreeBSD 2.1.0 RELEASE, the system detects a wd3 disk device
of 4GB in size. Unless I am very lucky and there's an additional hard
drive neither my machine's BIOS nor I know about, device wd3 doesn't
exist, and doesn't seem to be referenced anywhere in my kernel.

The machine is a Gateway 2000 Pentium-120, with an EIDE interface and
one 1.2GB hard disk. There's a six-speed IDE CD-ROM drive and a regular
3.5" floppy drive in the machine. No tape drives or anything else.

Also, ppp seems to want to write to this device from time to time, and
returns error messages to the console (unfortunately I don't know off
hand what they are and I'm not currently connected to the BSD machine).

Any ideas about where this wd3 device is coming from?

Though it doesn't seem to be causing any problems, I'm rather curious
about it.

Please reply by e-mail or on this newsgroup.

Thanks in advance.
