I had the same problem until I reconfigured my kernel to accept my
PS/2 type mouse.  X-windows tries to access your mouse (I thought 
my mouse was a bus-mouse- oops), and then chokes when it can't,
and the whole system reboots.  If you have a PS/2 type mouse,
reconfigure your kernel (see the FAQ), and try again.
