And most of us couldn't care less about them.  If FreeBSD switched
to ELF, I would have to spend a substantial amount of time porting
programs I use regularly, for absolutely no gain.

If ELF is so important to you, use Linux.  That's the point of having
a choice of operating systems: you can choose the one with the features
you need.
