Aaaah, this is a common problem with Infomagic.
They have sent you the wrong CD-ROMs.  They should have sent you their
BSD-Disc (or alternatively, you should have ordered from Walnut Creek).
Send those Linux CDs back, and get the right ones.
The FreeBSD operating system will then install and detect the Adaptec 
1542 card just fine.
