Of course, the modems must ``know'' at which DTE speed they have to
talk to the computer for an incoming call.  (For outgoing traffic, the
speed is usually autodetected by the first AT command.)

You gotta lock your modems to your desired speed.  The way to do this
is very vendor-specific.
