I recall reading somewhere in this newsgroup some time ago 
that the in order to use the software configurable IRQ 
for a NE2000 network card, one had to enter a certain value
for the IRQ in the kernel configuration file.  I seem to 
remember that if a IRQ was specified, it would assume that this
refered to the hardwired default value on the card, and not
the software configured value.  

Can anybody fill me in on what the trick was?

(I'm using 2.0.5 by the way, but I don't imagine much has changed 
in this particular area since then.)
