User ppp has more status and connection information available from the
user prompt. It is also (my opinion) a bit quicker as far as throughput
is concerned. Since I do not use a dedicated (24 hour) connection at
home, when I am whiling away those unproductive evening hours, I prefer
to use the ppp -auto mode to my ISP (the other one, fred.net).

However, if I had a class C address at home, I would probably use the
daemon, pppd, for 24-hour connection. User ppp has a disconcerting habit
of timing out and disconnecting -- which may be the result of an error
in my settings, defaults, or something. Also, the "on-demand" feature is
not responsive at all times, it seems.

Also, let's not forget that ppp is not compiled into the generic kernel.
Since I can't even figure out how to disklabel a second drive, you can
just imagine me trying to recompile the kernel. ;-)

Now, watch me get 50 e-notes explaining how to compile the kernel, and
not one on how to make sense out of disktab. :)
