IMHO gated is much easier to handle for routing, it supports RIP, dynamically 
adjusting as required to your network.  I have not gotten it to route across 
a ppp link, I think its me.

In the simplest of cases, and its what I use most of the time.  I pick up the 
following file, called gated.conf and placed it in the /etc directory:
